Congratulations to Patsy Lockhart, Bay Area Writing Project Teacher-Consultant and teacher at Barnard-White Middle School, recipient of the California Teachers Association Lois Tinson Human Rights Award, which recognizes those who have made significant contributions toward providing equal opportunities for African Americans. Congratulations to Maureen Rippee, teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach USD and Teacher-Consultant for the UCI Writing Project, for being awarded the Cesar Chavez Inaugural Peacemaker Award for her 18 years of work with Students Against Racism.
Congratulations to Carol Booth Olson, Director, UCI Writing Project and Bob Land, Director, Los Angeles Writing Project at CSULA on being awarded the Alan Purves Award for their article, "A Cognitive Strategies Approach to Reading and Writing Instruction for English Language Learners in Secondary School." In addition being published in Research in the Teaching of English, RTE judged it as the article of 2007 judged to have the greatest impact on educational practice.
Congratulations to Dr. Bob Land, Director of the Los Angeles Writing Project at Cal State Los Angeles, for being one of five awarded the Cal State LA's 2006-2007 Outstanding Professor Award.
Congratulations to Dr. Sheridan Blau, who will be awarded the NCTE Distinguished Service Award at the 2007 National Council of Teachers of English Annual Convention in New York.
